Democracy Has Prevailed.

$68,796

That's the amount of money, according to thinkprogress, that Congressman Pat Toomey's campaign has received from Senator DeMint's two Political Action Committees; MINTPAC and the Senate Conservatives Fund.

Thinkprogress wonders whether GOP candidates (like Pat Toomey) accepting funds from DeMint's PACs agree with DeMint's recently reported social positions.

But what are those positions? Let's go find out.

Talkingpointsmemo reports:
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) says that even though "no one" came to his defense in 2004 after he said that gay people and unwed mothers should be banned from teaching, "everyone" quietly told him that he shouldn't back down from his position.

He also implied that not banning gay people and women who have sex before marriage from teaching would be an attack on Christians, and defended his position on banning gay teachers because he holds the same position on women who have sex outside of marriage.

"[When I said those things,] no one came to my defense," he said, the Spartanberg Herald-Journal reported. "But everyone would come to me and whisper that I shouldn't back down. They don't want government purging their rights and their freedom to religion."
And then TPM quotes:
The Spartanberg Herald-Journal described the comments this way: "DeMint said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn't be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who's sleeping with her boyfriend -- she shouldn't be in the classroom." DeMint did not apparently state his position on whether sexually active unmarried male teachers should be similarly removed from classrooms.
The Spartanburg Herald Journal has more:
Sen. Jim DeMint told a crowd of supporters Friday evening that he will continue to recruit like-minded Conservatives across the nation to run for Congress and pastors to join the fight to “take our country back.”
And:
DeMint said he's supporting candidates such as Pennsylvania Republican Pat Toomey, Florida Republican nominee Marco Rubio and Kentucky GOP nominee Rand Paul, among others. They, DeMint said, will demand a stop to “reckless government spending” and fight to repeal “Obama-care.” They'll talk about principles and pro-life issues and will fight to keep marriage between a man and a woman, he said.
Notice that when DeMint says he's recruiting like-minded candidates, he includes Pat Toomey on his list.

DeMint believes that;
  • Gay men and women should not be teaching in the public schools
  • Sexually active single women should not be teaching in the public schools
  • Marriage is between a man and a woman
  • Disagreeing with any of those two positions is an attack on Christianity
And he recruited Pat Toomey with $68,796. Does Pat Toomey agree with Jim DeMint?

Did Joe Sestak to return the campaign funds $12,000 which were donated by Democrat Rep. Charlie Rangel?
The guy who writes tax law and does not pay his taxes?

HTTT, those dollars were for previous campaigns, $7,000 in 2006 and $5,000 in 2008. Prior campaigns. Toomey is receiving the $68,796 for this election cycle.

Does Rangel's Political Action Committee have anything to do with his personal behavior? And by the way, what is your position on Christine O'Donnell using campaign contributions to pay her rent?

Jim DeMint is personally holding up the Senate from voting on whether to allow a group to buy federal land to build a national women's history museum, because an anti-abortion women's group told him to. Do you really think our congressional leaders should bow to the opinions of one particular interest group? (of course you do)

Plus, turns out Sestak is donating the $12,000 to charity (this from someone who can't post a comment at the moment).

Anything to say about Christine O'Donnell? Or for that matter about Pat Toomey, any word on when he will donate the $68,796 to charity?

HTTT;

You REALLY have to do your homework before commenting on the blog.

You'll look like less of an idiot if you do.

A word to the wise.
