Andrew Sullivan Debunks

In this comment on the previous post, Blue Number 2 linked to this piece by Andrew Sullivan.

Go read it - it's important.

Torture did not lead to the intel that got bin Laden.

Torture is still illegal.

I find it funny progressives are outraged at "Waterboating" of 3 terrorists who are not entitled to Geneva Conventions protections because they did not themselves follow the Conventions.

But no outrage over the Chicago Police using Torture.

Ex-Chicago Cop Gets 4 1/2 Years in Torture Case

Guess they get a pass because they are gun-grabbing union Democrats.

It's wrong in any case. But note the difference here HTTT. The police were acting outside the law and prosecutors are agreeing that at least 3 cases would be prosecutable.

But Bush instituted a program that instilled torture as SOP and used made up dubious at best legal reasoning to justify it.

It's wrong whether an individual, several individuals, a group or a whole country do it. But the idea that it was instilled as a program is contemptible.

Not to mention the fact that torture is not even designed to get real information. It's meant to humiliate and de-humanize and extact revenge.

I thought Leon Panetta said that "enhanced interrogation" did assist. I guess I don't know what he means by that, though. Could it be something that doesn't rise to the level of "cruel and unusual", or was it waterboarding?

HTTT, do you actually read the articles you link to? Or are you trying to prove that conservatives don't understand reality?

Ed,
What did I miss? Enlighten me.
No one on the Chicago Police has been convinced for Torture.
Just one guy for "lying about the torture of suspects".

HTTT, do you understand what statute of limitations means? And before you say that Democrats of Chicago have given a pass to "gun-grabbing Democrats" I would ask where all those Republican governors in the last thirty to forty years (when these events apparently occurred).

You are complaining about events that took place in one city thirty to forty years ago, and essentially saying that Republicans can not be criticized for anything ever if one Democrat ever did anything wrong in history. You are clearly not really interested in any kind of real discussion.
