Can Someone Please Explain This To Me??

From the lefty lib'rul Washington Post:
The seed that foreshadowed Hank Krakowski’s downfall Thursday was planted three years ago on a November day in a Texas hotel ballroom when he first addressed the assembled managers of the nation’s air traffic controllers.

He talked about serving pilots and he talked about working with airline dispatchers, but he made virtually no mention of the grinding day-to-day duties done by the men and women who shepherd 47,000 flights through America’s skies each day.

Krakowski was forced out as head of the federal air traffic control system after a series of recent embarrassments when controllers were caught sleeping and a year in which errors — some of them potentially disastrous — have soared.
Can someone please tell me WHY the guv'ment is in the business of regulating air traffic controllers in the first place? Why can't those over paid bureaucrats just get the heck out of the way with all their job-killing big guv'ment regulations and let the invisible hand of the free market clean this mess up?

Why can't we just deregulate and let the airline industry police itself (as it should because only it knows the business - not some cuff-linked bureaucrat who's only protecting his job). If we did that then the invisible hand of the market will inevitably move consumers to the more successful airlines and the less successful will just have to work a little harder in order to survive.

It's for the airline industry to decide for itself what it needs to do to most efficiently bring their goods and services to the marketplace - not Obamacare or ACORN! As a badly run airline will see its bottom line suffer, it's in that airline's self interest to be as safe as possible. They don't need any guv'ment regulation to tell them that!

The process will make the industry stronger and that's the only thing that's important here.

If a few consumers meet their maker due to the mistakes that will inevitably occur due to those less than successful airlines, that's OK. Their sacrifice will ensure all our freedoms. And anyway as Don Rumsfeld once so wisely said, stuff happens. Democracy's messy.

If only the guv'ment would release it's choke hold on it, the free market would solve all humanities problems.

That's all we need - a truly deregulated freemarket.

And Jesus.

G.E. Apologizes

In an early morning press conference today, General Electric Chief Executive Jeff Immelt apologized for their recent corporate tax controversy. G.E. is the nations's largest corporation. Despite reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion for 2010 (5.1 billion from US operations), G.E. not only paid zero in federal income taxes in 2010, they claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.

Immelt acknowledged, "The fact that we paid nothing to the I.R.S. this year can only be described as obscene." He went on to add:
"When a company's lowest paid employee pays more in federal taxes than the company itself there is a fundamental flaw in the system. In this tough economy millions of hard-working Americans are struggling to just get by let alone to pay their own taxes. Moreover, they are being hit on all sides by cutbacks in government services at both the federal and state levels. Frankly, I'm surprised that they aren't rioting in the streets."
Immelt said that corporations like G.E. should not be able to concentrate their profits offshore and said that as President Obama's liaison to the business community and as the chairman of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, he plans to lobby other American multinationals to imagine a better way. "We must be better corporate citizens. We must pay our fair share," he said.

At the end of the presser, Immelt replied to a question about the G.E.-designed reactors at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant with, "My bad." .

Mayor Ravenstahl's edited inauguration footage revealed!

According to both the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review a spot airing on the Pittsburgh Cable TV channel showing footage of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's inauguration after party had to be edited to remove scenes that some found objectionable.

Fortunately, I taped the program when it originally aired and present still photos of fleeting scenes which do not appear in the now edited segment.

While I cannot claim that Ravenstahl appears in most of the removed offensive footage as the males' faces are partially obscured, I will vouch that the last still shot below (taken in the parking lot outside the party as dawn was breaking) is definitely Mayor Luke as the image of the person depicted can be clearly matched to many of the pictures seen in Ravenstahl's "Mayor Luke Ravenstahl A Pittsburgh Story" campaign brochure.

Here are the deleted scene stills:
